FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A young Fresno student with a real knack for spelling is honored by the city.
“It’s been really exciting, it’s like a whirlwind.” -Ananya Vinay, Spelling Bee Champ.

She’s kind of a big deal here in Fresno, Ananya Vinay, the reigning Scripps National Spelling Bee Champ, and TV star.
“Like CNN and stuff, I went on Jimmy Kimmel, I went on Live with Kelly and Ryan.” – Ananya Vinay,
Liz Kern: “Were you ever nervous with all this?
Ananya Vinay; “I’m getting used to it.”
Fresno City Council honored the now 7th grader by proclaiming June 15th Ananya Vinay Day. She was joined by her parents to accept the certificate and shake hands with Fresno City leaders.

Council members were self-admittedly all starry-eyed as they lined up to take a picture with the young spelling bee champ.
Vinay shared her most favorite part of celebrity… “Going to the warriors game – it was a really close game,” – Ananya Vinay.
