FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Bulldog gang member armed with SKS rifle is shot and killed by two Fresno Police officers early Wednesday morning
Police Chief Jerry Dyer says as many as a hundred rounds were fired, they believe the shooter, 21-year-old Salvadro Lopez, had a death wish when he opened fire on police.
About twenty calls came in to 911, from people reporting that shots were being fired on the 300 block of West Dakota between Palm and Fruit.
Chief Dyer says one of the callers was a woman, a family member of the shooter. As bullets rang out, the caller was frantic saying “Help me please, they are shooting and they are coming to kill us,” speaking of the other three adults and six children inside the home.
Lopez was living in a shed on the property, and was the Godson of one of family members, who told police that he was despondent over the death of his grandmother.
“This is not one of those situations that anyone is going to be able to de-escalate, by what he had said on the phone he either had a death wish or had a desire to kill people or both.” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Police were able to get the family members outside of the house but when Lopez started firing at the responding officers from the backyard of the property, two other officers were able to flank him and shot him. Lopez died at the scene. The DA is now investigating the case.
