FRESNO (KMJ) — A semi-truck and train crash in Northwest Fresno is now under investigation, after the incident which made an impact on both the trailer and the morning commute.
The incident was reported around 6am Friday. A Union Pacific Police Officer on scene revealed that the semi-truck waiting at the red light at Shaw and Golden State Boulevard was hit because the back of it was hanging over the line.
“A southbound Union Pacific locomotive collided with a tractor trailer, on the Fresno subdivision in Fresno California at the Shaw Avenue crossing,” states Union Pacific’s Justin Jacobs. “Thankfully there were no injuries reported and the cause of the incident is under investigation.”
The crash meant westbound Shaw Avenue was blocked off while the site was being cleared. Vehicles were diverted around it, taking a route through Jennifer Avenue. Eastbound Shaw Avenue was remained open, but drivers were slowing down to look at the crash.
“In situations like this, definitely the safety message here for motorists is that we hope that they’re very aware of the potential hazards associated with trains and should make sure that they’re clear of the crossings and really follow the signs and the lines on the ground,” adds Jacobs.
The semi-truck has since been moved out of the roadway, and both directions of Shaw Avenue at Golden State Boulevard are open once again.
