FRESNO (KMJ) — Free shredding sessions are taking place all over the Central Valley this month. The events, organized by the Central Valley Community Bank, are to ensure any documents left over from tax season do not fall into the hands of anyone unscrupulous.
“Typically tax time is a perfect time to go through, look at their documents, shred old tax returns, …that may be subject to identity theft,” says Executive Vice President Gary Quisenberry.
“According to Javelin Strategy & Research, last year alone there were over 15.4 million victims of identify fraud, and that equated to over $16 billion in losses. We do this every year around tax time as a reminder that people should protect their identity.”
Anyone who has papers to securely dispose of just has to arrive at one of the events listed below, with no more than four banker boxes per person or business. All take place between 9am and 12 noon, unless otherwise stated.
