FRESNO (KMJ) — The man alleged to be behind the fatal Downtown Fresno shooting spree remains behind bars, but he is still spreading his message.
Kori Ali Muhammad has so far made two appearances in the courtroom – one on Friday April 21st (click here to read more) and another on Thursday April 27th (click here to read more). On each of those occasions he took the opportunity to shout.
“Pray for the missing black women and children in America,” cried out Muhammad as he was being led out Thursday morning. “Let black people go with reparations.”
But his time behind bars has also given him opportunity to make his views known to local media outlets, allowing him to express his motivations and feelings towards the treatment of African Americans.
“All inmates in the jail have access to telephones, no matter where they are housed,” reveals Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.
The Sheriff’s Office manages Fresno County Jail.
“The way I understand that the media may interview somebody in the jail, if they’re not on their visitors list they could write a letter asking the defendant – the inmate – to call them.
“It looks like in this case that’s what’s happened.”
But Sheriff Mims says her office has not received any orders to limit that access.
“It could influence proceedings, however it’s up the courts and the attorneys to take action to let us know to restrict any kind of telephone privilege an inmate has.”
The District Attorney’s Office has stated that the 39 year old suspect could face life in prison or death, if convicted for the trio of deaths he is said to have committed on Tuesday April 18th.
