CLOVIS (KMJ) — A long standing Central Valley 4th of July tradition may come to an end unless organizers can find enough financial support.
The ‘Freedom Fest’ fireworks show is approaching its 18th year inside Clovis High’s Lamomica Stadium, but those in charge of ensuring the night sky is lit up are concerned that there will not be enough money to make it happen.
“Sadly we’ve lost our main sponsor, which paid almost half of the cost of the fireworks,” explains Feleena Sutton with organizer Clovis Kiwanis.
“So we are very concerned that Lamonica Stadium will fall silent on the 4th of July and the Central Valley is going to lose a very patriotic event.”
She describes it as a typical situation – that donations will come in last minute the closer we come to the 4th of July itself.
“We started looking in January, and of course in January not many people are thinking about what’s happening in July…so that’s why we wanted to do a plea to the community.”
She is appealing for anyone who can help provide the approximately $45,000 they need to ensure the show goes on.
“It would be spectacular if 45 local businesses could each pledge $1000”, says Kiwanis President Matt Teresi. “Please keep in mind that this funding will only be spent on the Freedom Fest and everyone involved is a volunteer.”
