FRESNO (KMJ) — Rain and snow are both on the horizon for the Central Valley over the coming days – and the National Weather Service says it’s definitely unusual for this time of year.
Snow is expected to fall at around 5000 feet in some areas, and rain is expected in the lower elevations too. The majority is due to arrive Friday, with the last of it due Saturday with potentially some thunderstorms too.
“The heaviest precipitation is going to be from Sacramento down to about Fresno County,” reveals Hanford based NWS meteorologist Carlos Molina. “Once you start getting into Kings, Tulare County, those totals will start dropping off. Down towards Kern County, Bakersfield, they may not see as much.”
As much as three inches of rain could be falling in some areas, but Molina reveals that it’s unexpected to receive weather like this in the month of April.
“This is kind of a rare event to actually have an atmospheric river, coming up into Central California during the spring time.”
Then once we’re done with this bout of precipitation, there is a possibility of some more.
“Looks like we do have another storm that’s going to be coming in, not this weekend but the next weekend,” adds Molina.
