Politicians, Transportation Advocates Urge Vote to Fix CA Roads

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Local politicians and transportation/labor advocates urged state lawmakers on Friday to pass a bill to provide funding to fix California’s roads, made worse by the winter storms.

They say it’s been 23 years since California has increased funding for transportation and that it costs eight times more to fix a road than to maintain it.

The deadline to pass the bill is April 6th, the last day of the legislative session before lawmakers take a spring recess.

Those who urged the passing of the bill include:

  • Esmeralda Soria, Fresno City Councilmember
  • Craig Pedersen, Kings County Supervisor
  • Daniel Parra, Fowler City Mayor Pro-Tem
  • Will Oliver, Madera City Councilmember
  • Sharri Bender Ehlert, Caltrans District 6 Director
  • Tony Boren, Executive Director, Fresno Council of Governments
  • Chuck Riojas, Secretary-Treasurer of the Fresno, Madera, Tulare, Kings Building and Construction Trades Council
  • Orville Thomas, Director of Government Affairs, California Alliance for Jobs
