FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Fresno Grizzlies are taking a MiLB rivalry to the next level. For the last few years the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and the Fresno Grizzlies have gotten into it on social media – an argument that allegedly began over hats. Grizzlies’ General Manager Derek Franks says the pigs had a bacon hat that they felt the Grizzlies ripped off when they created their widely popular taco hat. And so a social media rivalry was born.
“More recently they’ve gone so far as to say that bacon is better food than a taco,” said Franks. “It insulted us quite frankly. This is part of our culture here, our heritage and we feel like they took it a step too far. Finally we just decided we’re going to settle the score and let the people decide – bacon or tacos. Who is superior? And we’re asking for everyone to vote #TeamTacos and help us beat these guys.”
The two teams created a website for the showdown – BaconVsTacos.com. Click on the link and cast your vote. The loser of the contest will be forced to wear the winners’ hat for a game in June 2017.
