FRESNO (KMJ) — Yosemite National Park is still open for business, but a local tourism group says the signs detailing road closures are misleading those from out of town.
“Know that because it says ‘road closed’, it doesn’t mean Yosemite is closed,” explains the CEO of Visit Yosemite Madera County Ronda Salisbury.
She adds that those traveling to the Central Valley from a foreign country, may be mistaken because they’re unaware that there are multiple entry points into Yosemite National Park.
“The Caltrans highway sign says ‘road closed’…nobody knows what that means. So what we’re trying to do is get that changed to Yosemite detour ahead.”
But Caltrans responds stating that the wording is accurate, and has since been reviewed by the traffic management staff.
“We don’t that Yosemite National Park is closed, we don’t claim that businesses are closed. The sign simply states that State Route 41, north of Fishcamp, is closed and then we alert motorists of a detour that is available.”
Highway 140 is currently the only way to access Yosemite National Park.
