REEDLEY (KMJ) — A Reedley PD officer whose dedication to service prompted to him to help save a seven-year-old’s birthday party, has been celebrated for his actions.
The recognition was just one part of Reedley Police’s 18th Annual Department Inspection and Awards Ceremony.
“This is actually my favorite one here”, explained Police Chief Joe Garza before inviting Officer Tim Kelly to join him at the podium.
He told the crowd that on August 27th 2016, Officer Kelly was on another call for service when he was told about the seven year old’s report of theft.
“Officer Kelly learned the girl and her family were celebrating her birthday there at McDonald’s, and some of the money that she had received for her birthday was stolen”.
Chief Garza revealed that later that day Officer Kelly bought a toy doll and toy handbag to make up for the theft.
“Officer Kelly paid for the gift himself, and hours later went to the girls home and presented her with her birthday gifts”.
He was praised for going above and beyond to make a positive impact on the young girl.
“For that, I consider Tim Kelly to be a true American hero”.
The ceremony also handed awards to others Reedley Police officers for their efforts, as well as for those considered to have made a vital contribution to the department.
