FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is “reviewing everything” related to the accidental shooting death Monday, October 31st of Fresno County Sheriff’s Sergeant Rod Lucas.
They say it’s standard procedure in any officer involved shooting.
DA Lisa Smittcamp’s review will take place as the Sheriff’s Office conducts its own investigation into the accidental shooting by a Fresno County Sheriff’s Detective that left Lucas mortally injured while at a Sheriff’s Department building near the airport.
Sheriff Margaret Mims said Sergeant Lucas and a detective were discussing their weapons at the time.
The detective was holding his firearm, when it accidentally went off, the bullet hitting Sergeant Lucas in the chest.
Lucas had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1996, and was a married father with four children and one grandchild.
