Just how much corn was sold at Fresno State?!
Fresno State reports nearly 70,000 ears of their sweet corn were sold the first weekend of the 2015 harvest at the Gibson Farm Market on campus.
“It’s savory, it’s sweet, it’s robust it’s whatever you want to call, but it’s definately sweet corn at it’s finest.” – Geoff Thurner, Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology.
Sweet corn is among 20 enterprises sponsored by Fresno State on its 1,000-acre University Farm Laboratory.
More than $1 million in products are sold each year at the Gibson Farm Market.
“Basically, this is one of the biggest moneymakers of the year. Last year, we sold over 600,000 ears over the whole course of the summer, and we’ll have a similar number. We try to shoot for a thousand and some are given away to other markets around the area. It’s the best, freshest, product possible.” – Geoff Thurner, Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology:
The Gibson Market is preparing for the Farm Festival, July 11 with samples of summer products, and a wine tasting.
