CLOVIS, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — A 13-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car in Clovis on Tuesday has been identified.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified him as Agamjodh Singh Cheema of Clovis.
He was a student at Clark Intermediate School.
The teen died while biking West down Bullard near Temperance around 5:30 pm.
Clovis police say he collided with a Toyota Camry driven by a woman headed in the same direction, but it’s unclear how they came into contact.
The woman stayed on the scene and was cooperating with police.
They do not believe she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
“At this time, we don’t believe DUI, any kind of intoxication, or distracted driving is a factor in this case. However, because this is still an ongoing investigation that still has to be looked into fully.” -Ty Wood, Clovis Police Department.
Investigators say Agamjodh was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash he died at the scene.
In a statement, Clovis Unified officials described him as a beloved eighth grader who was well-liked by his peers, teachers, and coaches.
They say he participated in honors classes, wrestled, and played football and volleyball.
The statement went on to say many fellow students found out about the 13-year-old’s death through their social networks.
On Wednesday morning, the district’s crisis response team was on campus helping the community navigate the loss and offering resources to parents for helping their kids at home.
Another support team was deployed to Cedarwood Elementary, where Agamjodh used to attend.
“School communities are a close-knit family, so this news hits hard for our staff and our students, and we are pulling together to support one another and Agamjodh’s family and siblings in the district,” district officials wrote.
Clovis police report that since last April, the city has had 43 collisions between vehicles and bicycles, including 29 with injuries.
This crash marks the only death.
Clark Intermediate was supposed to have an open house, but that has been postponed. A new date hasn’t been announced.
Grief counselors are on campus at Clark Intermediate to help support students.
