Report: Gov. Newsom Gives ‘Burner’ Phones to Tech Bosses

(KMJ) As evidenced by his new podcast, our Governor likes to talk.

Now he’s aiming to chat it up with some of California’s top tech titans.

According to a new report, Governor Gavin Newsom has been reaching out to dozens of CEOs at California-based tech firms by sending them prepaid cell phones – often called ‘burner’ phones.

Politico reports Newsom attached a personal note with the package reading “If you ever need anything, I’m a phone call away”. The phones are pre-programmed with Newsom’s number.

The governor’s office told KCRA News that the effort reflects the governor’s commitment to supporting the California business community, maintaining the state’s global economic dominance, creating jobs and expanding industries.

Gizmodo.com called the Gov’s move a “bizarre stunt”.

A rep for the Governor told Politico that it was Newsom’s idea and he has already had some “valuable interactions”.

The report says The California Protocol Foundation paid for the gifts.
