So Gov. Gavin Newsom stirred up a hornets nest with both conservatives AND liberals this week on his new podcast.
The first episode of “This Is Gavin Newsom” pod dropped on Thursday with an unexpected whopper – that he agreed with his MAGA-backing guest Charlie Kirk – that trans women participating in girls sports is “deeply unfair”.
This leads to many questions. Do you believe him? Is this a political ploy to garner favor ahead of a Presidential run? Why now? Why hasn’t he signed legislation banning biological males from participating in girl’s sports?
Transgender athletes in California have long been protected prior to Newsom’s administration under AB 1266. The law was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, in August 2013.
The California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus slammed the Governor saying they were “profoundly sickened”.
Newsom’s comments come days after Senate Democrats in Washington D.C. voted unanimously to block a GOP-led bill that would prohibit federally funded schools from allowing transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.
Katy Grimes wrote in The California Globe: “Is Newsom a shapeshifter or has he seen the light? We all know the answer; Newsom is a politician. His side just lost a major election, and many Californians voted for Trump.”
