MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — A woman has died following a crash in Madera County early Tuesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 5 am on Road 9 and Avenue 25, just west of Chowchilla.

Officers say a woman was driving a Nissan Altima south on Road 9 when she drove past a stop sign at the intersection with Avenue 25.

A Toyota Tacoma was going west and crashed with the side of the Altima.

The woman was declared dead at the scene. Officers say she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Tacoma complained of pain but was not taken to the hospital.

Officers say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors.
