CLOVIS, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — 19-year-old Clovis resident Mikhaila Gonzales said she was abruptly woken up early Sunday morning by this vehicle slamming into her home.
Video provided to Action News from neighbor Curtis Foore gives a different perspective of the collision.
Clovis police said the crash happened on Sierra Madre Avenue near Blackwood Avenue around 3:15 a.m.
Photos show the damage to the car and home after the collision.
“When I woke up, I didn’t know what was going on. I don’t even remember fully seeing everything clearly, but I just remember my dad and my stepmom running in and yelling, like ‘What happened, what happened?’,” said Gonzales.
The 19-year-old and her 12-year-old niece were sleeping in the same room, just inches from where the car stopped.
After the crash, Gonzales and her father went to check the vehicle. That’s when they realized there were two young children in the back of the car.
“We immediately tried to open the windows and get them out. She was unconscious, we couldn’t really see her or the babies, but we heard cries, so our first instinct is to help everyone no matter what the situation is,” said Gonzales.
As a precaution, police said the two children were taken to the hospital.
Gonzales isn’t mad that her room is now destroyed; she’s just grateful to be alive.
“To think that we went to be so innocently and not knowing that your life can be taken in a second, it’s just crazy,” said Gonzales.
The driver of the vehicle did complete a DUI test, and no arrest has been made.
