Family Id’s Man Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — We’re learning more about a man who was killed in a suspected DUI crash in Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 11 pm Saturday at the intersection on Manning and Hill avenues, just outside Orange Cove.

The family of 27-year-old Eli Lopez has identified him as the victim.

Family members tell Action News that Lopez was with his girlfriend at the time of the crash.

Officers say the two were at a stop sign at the intersection when a Honda Civic slammed into the back of their Honda Accord before hitting a second car.

Lopez died at the scene.

His girlfriend was removed from the fiery wreckage and suffered moderate to major injuries.

The suspect, 24-year-old Jesus Zeferino. also had moderate injuries.

He was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Zeferino’s three passengers were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries.

The driver of the second car that was hit had minor head injuries, while their passenger was not hurt.
