FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — The woman who was shot and killed in northeast Fresno over the weekend has been identified as 19-year-old Aaliyah Bonman.
The shooting happened before 3 am on Saturday, August 24, near Cedar and Nees.
Officers say Bonman was involved in a fight with 21-year-old Penelope Mehr when Mehr pulled out a gun and shot Bonman.
Bonman was found in the parking lot of a Rite Aid.
She was rushed to St. Agnes Hospital, where she died.
On Sunday, undercover officers found Mehr near Second Street and Jensen Avenue, where she was taken into custody.
She was booked into the Fresno County Jail for murder.
Police say 18-year-old Nevaeh Solomon helped Mehr during the shooting.
A felony accessory warrant has been issued for her arrest.
The victim’s mother says Bonman was always there for those around her.
“Just loving with a bright future. She cared a lot about everybody and everything,” said Megan Gauna.
Gauna says Bonman was the youngest of three and her only daughter.
She was working as a nail tech and dreamed of attending nursing school.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Bonman’s family during this time.
This was the 21st homicide of 2024 in Fresno.
