MADERA, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Crews in Madera were working on Tuesday to repair a broken sewage line approximately 20 feet underground.
A local state of emergency was put into place for residents in Madera and Parksdale, who were being affected by the sewage issue.
Crews closed off Avenue 13 from Granada Drive to Road 24 as they worked to construct an above-ground bypass system.
The city hoped to have the temporary solution online by Tuesday evening but say it has been delayed to Wednesday due to equipment availability.
Until then, residents are urged to avoid excessive water activities.
Residents should avoid using the dishwasher, watering plants, taking showers or flushing the toilet.
The city says tap water is safe to drink.
Residents can get updates on the situation through Facebook, or by signing up for Nixle alerts.
