WOODLAND, CA (KMJ) – The case against a former UC Davis student accused of several deadly stabbings is on hold.

On Monday, the judge dismissed jurors in Carlos Dominguez’s competency trial in Yolo County Superior Court in Woodland.

Prosecutors agreed that Dominguez is mentally unfit for trial, after medical experts testified he is schizophrenic during trial from July 24 to 28th.

Prosecutors say on April 27, 2023, he stabbed Davis resident David Breaux at Central Park.

Two days later, UC Davis student Karim Abou Najm was stabbed to death at Sycamore Park.

On May 1, 2023, Kimberlee Guillory was stabbed through her tent at a homeless encampment, but she survived the attack.

Dominguez was arrested May 4, 2023.

Dominguez is charged with murder for the stabbings of Breaux and Najm, and attempted murder for attack on Guillory.

During a press conference, a day later, Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel said in his 40 years- he’d never seen anything like it.

“The attacks were particularly violent and brazen.”
