FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Fresno City College is having an Open House for its new West Fresno Center on Aug. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 9 to 12 p.m.
Parking is free for the event and Indian refreshments will be served by the Sikh community of Fresno.
The brand-new West Fresno Center sits on 39 acres with 110,000 square feet of instructional space.
The $86.5 million project is funded by $70 million from facilities bonds and $16.5 million is allocated by the City of Fresno from the Transformative Climate Community (TCC) program.
TCC assists disadvantaged communities with neighborhood projects that provide local economic, environmental, and health benefits while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The City of Fresno is also providing $11 million in off-site improvements.
The West Fresno Center will be an open campus with park-like settings, including bicycle and pedestrian paths.
Also, an urban forest and bio-retention system to promote groundwater recharge will be included.
The central plaza and water feature will be the major hallmark of the campus.
The new center will provide the West Fresno community with a complete college center offering diverse educational opportunities, from transferable college credits to career technology courses.
In addition to general education classes, students can study social justice, public health, and medical assisting and take prerequisites for nursing and other allied health programs.
The Advanced Transportation Center will open in January 2024 and consolidate all automotive programs.
