Mayor Dyer Unveils Proposed City of Fresno 2024 Budget

FRESNO, CA- Mayor Jerry Dyer, along with City Manager Georgeanne White, announced the City of Fresno’s proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget at a City Hall news conference Thursday.

The $1,850,771,100 budget prioritized community safety, economic development, public work improvements, housing, Beautify Fresno, and investment in our youth.

The Mayor’s proposed budget flows from his core vision: an inclusive, prosperous, beautiful city where residents and businesses take pride in their neighborhood and their community. A government that listens, keeps its promises, and is owned by the people. A culture that says, β€œwe work for you.”

Highlights from Mayor Dyer’s proposed budget include:

  • Police Department: The budget includesa total of 900 sworn officers, including 12 positions added with a recent grant; eight emergency dispatchers including two supervisors; safety equipment for officers; an alternate mental health crisis response program.
  • Fire Department: Four new firefighter positions for a total of 375 firefighters; Safety Equipment and Training; lease of two replacement engines and five vehicles.
  • Public Works Improvements and Maintenance: The FY24 Budget funds dedicated pothole crews, plus equipment totaling $1,765,100.
  • Traffic Safety: 24 new traffic signals; 18 traffic signal modifications and upgrades; nine HAWK pedestrian crossing signals; β€œQuick-Build” school safety traffic improvements.
  • Beautify Fresno: Creation of four teams of two employees per team at a cost of $600,000.
  • Parks: In FY24, Measure P revenue is budgeted at $48.2 million; plus $39.6 million carried over from FY23; Capital Projects: greenspace, trails, senior and youth activities.

Mayor Jerry Dyer will present the Fiscal Year 2024 Proposed Budget to the Fresno City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Per the City Charter, the City of Fresno’s budget must be adopted by June 30th.
