The Westlands Water District responds to news of how much water the feds will let flow into the valley.
Westlands interim general manager says in a news release that the district is grateful for a 35% water allocation.
This comes following zero allocation for the past two years.
That resulted in more than 200-thousand acres being fallowed, which is 36% of the district’s farmland.
The district points out that this first allocation announcement shows that our state still needs to do a better job with capturing water during wet periods.
Westlands Water District serves farmers and rural community resident in Fresno and Kings counties.
