TULARE COUNTY, Calif. — The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Evacuation Warning for several mountain communities, as another winter storm is fast approaching.

The warning impacts those in Sequoia Crest, Alpine Village, Redwood Drive, Cedar Slope, and Ponderosa.

According to Caltrans, a stretch of Highway 190 is closed due to road damage but the Western Divide Highway remains open.

Sheriff Boudreaux says those residents who are evacuating, are advised to take the Western Divide Highway as soon as possible. Officials say that road will not be plowed overnight, which means if conditions worsen residents will not be able to leave or enter.

The warning was issued due to the potential risk of something happening and medical personnel not being able to pass through debris and rockslides.

If residents decide to stay, the sheriff’s office says they should prepare several days’ worth of food, fuel, water, and medication.
