
MERCED, Calif. (KMJ) — A man now faces several charges following a high-speed chase with police in Merced.
According to the Merced Police Department, an officer spotted a 2014 BMW Tuesday evening that was traveling at 80 miles an hour in the 2500 block of G Street.
Officers say they tried to pull over the driver, identified as Joseph Gonzalez, 30, but he instead sped away.
During the chase, officers say Gonzalez blew through several stop signs in a neighborhood, crashed into a tree, and ditched his car in Applegate Park. He then took off and was later caught by officers while running through Bear Creek.
The Merced Police Department says he was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail where he faces the following charges: Reckless driving, felony evading, various weapons charges, and DUI.
