City of Fresno Press Release: FRESNO, CA – The City of Fresno is pleased to announce Assistant City Manager Gregory Barfield, who currently oversees the City of Fresno’s Airports, Transportation, and General Services departments, as well as working with the management teams at the Fresno Grizzlies and the Fresno Convention Center, has accepted the critical role of Director of Transportation. The change means Barfield will return to his previous position, one that he remains passionate about – providing exceptional bus service to those who ride the Fresno Area Express (FAX). He previously served in this role for three years. “It has been an honor working at this level for the last two years and I look forward to continuing to serve the community, just in a different role, working to build a better mobility system with a great team,” said Barfield. Barfield has worked for the City for nearly 18 years and during his tenure has developed expertise across all areas of government. As the Director of Transportation, he will manage more than 500 employees and oversee a budget of more than 165 million dollars. “Greg’s knowledge of our transit system and commitment to improving our service and expanding routes is unmatched. While he will be missed as the Assistant City Manager, he is the perfect person to lead FAX and implement the upgraded amenities we are debuting soon, including expanded technology enhancements and facilities upgrades for a Zero Emissions Fleet,” said City Manager Georgeanne White. “Greg genuinely cares about the rider experience and has been known to jump in to respond to residents who have questions about service. In addition, his enthusiasm and approachability will be a tremendous asset for the FAX team.” The City of Fresno will begin a national search for a new Assistant City Manager. In the meantime, Barfield will serve as Interim Assistant City Manager through the end of 2022. |
