MERCED, CA (KMJ) – A communications system at a high school in Madera triggers a false report of an active shooter.
Around 12:30 Wednesday, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Liberty High School regarding a possible active shooter.
The school was placed on a lock down as protocol after an automated PA announcement.
School Resource Deputy Ochoa immediately responded but discovered no evidence of a shooter or critical incident in the area.
During the lock down, Madera County Sheriff’s Deputies secured the entire campus and located no intruder or threat.
“We would like to reassure students, staff, and parents that there is no active threat, and the campus is safe. There is no evidence of a threat to students or staff at any time.”

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office said further investigation determined the lockdown was made in error via an automated internal communications system in place at the school.
