(KMJ) — A Dinuba man is being charged with homicide after officers found a woman shot dead Sunday.

The Dinuba Police Department says just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday, they went out to North Alta Avenue, near Davis Drive, after getting reports about shots being fired.

They found a woman had been shot and was lying unconscious. She died on the scene.

Dinuba Police didn’t say how they narrowed down who they think is responsible for the killing, but they identified Kurt Worton as a suspect. He’d fled the scene before officers got there, the Dinuba Police Department says.

Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office found him later in the day and were able to get him in custody after a short chase.

After he was questioned, Worton was taken to the Tulare County Jail on homicide charges.

The Dinuba Police Department is asking that if anyone has information on the incident, that they call (559) 851-5911 or use the anonymous tip line by calling 591-TIP1.
