Fresno County Warns of a New EBT Scam

(KMJ) – The Fresno County Department of Social Services issues a warning to residents about a new scam involving electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards

Scammers across the state are now trying to obtain EBT card information and PIN numbers by requesting that information via text message. And fraudsters are also skimming EBT cash benefits. Skimming involves the use of electronic equipment to capture a recipient’s EBT card information and create a counterfeit or duplicate card.

The California Department of Social Services is now investigating the scope of the thefts and methods to increase protection for EBT card holders.

Fresno County’s Department of Social Services wants to remind everyone that its staff members do not ask for EBT card information or PIN numbers. And EBT card holders should never give out their personal information.
