FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Lack of space in group homes has some foster children in Fresno County sleeping on floors, and one Valley Assemblyman is calling on the governor and state agencies to help.
Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson calls it a “bureaucratic nightmare.”
He says foster youth are having to sleep on the floor in Fresno County offices while waiting for placement.
The State of California has made it increasingly difficult to open new beds in group homes, and as a result we’re seeing a flattening or limitation on those group homes.”
-Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R)
Assemblyman Patterson has sent a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom and state officials asking them to work with Fresno County to immediately address this issue.
He says they have heard his plea, they have been responding, and Assemblyman Patterson says they are working together and beginning to make some progress.
