
(KMJ) – Fresno Police detectives release the name of the suspect accused of fatally stabbing a man in a wheelchair earlier this month.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has now charged 19-year-old Nickolas Irving with murder. He’s accused of stabbing 41-year-old Charles Kerns (pictured below) to death at Belmont and Roosevelt in Fresno around 4:30 p.m. back on September 21st.
Here’s how Fresno Police described the incident:
When officers arrived, they located 41-year-old Charles Kerns lying in the street, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Kerns is disabled and required the use of a wheelchair. The wheelchair was found on the sidewalk next to his body. Officers and EMS personnel performed lifesaving efforts at the scene until Kerns was transported to CRMC. He was pronounced deceased at 4:53 pm.
Several citizens in the area came to the aid of Kerns and chased the suspect through the surrounding neighborhood while leading officers to the suspect’s location. Officers arrived on scene, then located and detained 19-year-old Nickolas Irving.
