FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – California says mask mandate is not going away until June 15th.
California, the nation’s most populous state – home to 39.5 million people – says it will not join many other states in ending mask requirements.
The state’s Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly announced Monday that the mask mandate in California is not going away until June 15th.
California plans come as stores here in California are losing the battle of convincing people to keep following mask rules.

FRESNO, CA– This is an update from the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) about the status of masking requirements in Fresno County, which will align with the announcement made earlier by the State of California Governor’s Office and California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
Face coverings are no longer required outdoors except for unvaccinated people at crowded events when physical distancing cannot be maintained. In indoor settings outside of one’s home (including public spaces, stores, public transportation, and schools) face coverings continue to be required in the state of California, regardless of vaccination status.
After June 15, California plans to implement the recently announced Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) masking guidelines which will allow even more flexibility related to masking statewide. FCDPH will continue to work with our partners and communities to prepare for this change, by continuing our relentless focus on keeping residents of all ages safe and delivering vaccines to our vulnerable populations and underserved communities.
FCDPH urge all county residents to get vaccinated to ensure that infection and hospitalization rates remain low throughout Fresno County, and that we can all return to the activities we love. We can all do our part for ourselves, our loved ones and our community by encouraging everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated, and to recognize that there is an increased risk of spreading COVID in high risk settings including being in crowded indoor settings, and being around others who are unvaccinated, and unmasked.
