
KINGS COUNTY, CA (KMJ) – A man accused of shooting at officers has been arrested, according to deputies.
Deputies were called to help the California Highway Patrol with a traffic incident in the area of 18th and Kansas Ave. in Kings County on Monday.
They received reports that a milk tanker had overturned and another vehicle crashed into a field.
Two people from the car ran from the scene shortly after the accident, according to deputies.
CHP officers and deputies from the Kings County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for the people who ran away.
The Kings County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit helped with the search and spotted a Hyundai leave a field nearby and pick up the two people.
Deputies got behind the Hyundai and tried to pull it over but the driver took off reaching speeds up to 120 miles per hour.
While officers chased the car a person from inside the car shot multiple rounds from a rifle in the direction of deputies.
Officers say the car then drove down a dirt road where it stopped.
Four people ran from the car but one man was located and arrested near the car.
He was later released.
A second man, Roque Aguilar, was tracked by helicopter into a nearby orchard.
Kings County Sheriff’s Office Detectives began investigating the incident and located multiple .223 shell casings at the shooting scene.
Detectives say they located a loaded AR-15 type rifle along with a 30 round magazine near the area Roque was arrested.
Detectives believed the rifle was the one used in the shooting.
Roque was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, ex-felon in possession of ammunition, felony pursuit, and two Fresno County warrants.
