(KMJ) – A Valley woman now faces a charge of murder following a deadly crash in Selma Tuesday morning.
Police say 26-year-old Lizbeth Romero was drunk when she crashed into a parked SUV killing a 28-year-old man that was a passenger in her car.
A second female passenger was also injured in the crash that happened around 1:00 a.m. at Floral Avenue and A Street in Selma.
Following an investigation conducted by the Selma Police Department, it was determined that Romero was under the influence of alcohol.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office says Romero was charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while impaired, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher causing great bodily injury, driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, driving while on DUI probation with a blood alcohol content above .01%, and unsafe speed.
The DA’s office adds Romero has a prior conviction for an alcohol-related driving offense in January of 2021. Now, if convicted, she faces a sentence of up to 17 years to life in prison.
