FRESNO, CA (KMJ) — Moving back to purple on the Covid-19 risk level won’t impact Fresno County schools.
Schools that filed waivers with the Fresno County Health Department opened just a few weeks ago.
Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Jim Yovino says changing risk levels from red to purple won’t close campuses.
“For those who have reopened and have students, I don’t see this having a major effect on their school not staying open.”
There are three different models for schools that reopened in the county.
Cohorting puts one teacher with a small group of students. They are either special needs or at-risk.
Elementary waivers allow transitional kindergarten through sixth-grade students to return under Covid protocols.
The most recent allowed 7th grade through high school students to be back on campus.
“A lot of our school districts have submitted plans. They don have students on campus. A lot of them have operated with TK thru 6th. Not a lot of our districts have opened up for middle school and high school yet. Many of them were planning to do it in January.”
When the county returns to red, schools seeking the thumbs up to reopen have to remain in red four weeks before they receive permission.
