(KMJ) – A Porterville family continues to mourn the loss of a 13-year old girl killed as she slept in her bedroom by an alleged drunk driver.
At around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Cambria Soto was asleep in her bedroom when Porterville Police say a truck driven by 19-year-old Alexis Mendoza smashed through the wall of her family’s apartment. The impact badly injured the teen who was rushed to a local hospital, but did not survive her injuries.
Investigators say Mendoza (pictured below) was behind the wheel with alcohol in his system and was racing on west Tomah Avenue. He flew over the curb and straight through the front lawn of an apartment complex at Cobb Street and into Soto’s bedroom.
The community has now setup a Go Fund Me account to take away any financial stress for the Soto family during this heartbreaking time. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here.
