(KMJ) – A portion of Highway 140 in Mariposa County is renamed in honor of a firefighter who was killed battling a 2018 wildfire.
Wednesday, Cal Fire unveiled the ‘CAL FIRE Firefighter Braden Varney Memorial Highway’ on Highway 140, near its junction with the 49. The 36-year old Cal Fire Heavy Equipment Operator died July 14th, 2018 while battling the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County.
Varney’s widow Jessica and their two children Maleah and Nolan attended the unveiling. And each signed the back of the highway dedication sign.
