DINUBA, CA (KMJ) — The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of the man they say set fire to a haystack that displayed signs and banners in support of President Trump and Rep. Devin Nunes.
Tulare County Fire responded to the haystack fire on Oct. 10 in the area of Avenue 384 and Road 80, south of Dinuba.
It was the same location where another haystack was intentionally set on fire less than two weeks prior.
Tulare County Fire investigators and Sheriff’s detectives believe the fire was started intentionally because of the political signs.
Detectives later identified 43-year-old Adan Aguilar of New London as a possible suspect.
Aguilar was arrested and charged with arson during a state of emergency, arson of property, vandalism causing more than $400 of damage, and contempt of court. The charges are enhanced with the special allegation that the crimes were committed while on bail in two separate cases.
Aguilar currently has four additional open criminal cases for felony child abuse, violation of a court order, criminal threats, and felony evading.
He also possesses a 2001 prior “strike” for second-degree murder in Nevada.
If convicted of the charges filed in today’s complaint, Aguilar could face 21 years in prison.
This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Bryan De Haan or Sergeant Bryan Clower at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-808-0488, or anonymously at [email protected] or by text or voicemail at 559-725-419.
