SACRAMENTO, CA (KMJ) – California’s Attorney General announces the eradication of more than a million illegal marijuana plants in grow sites throughout the state.

Attorney General Xavier Becerra said over the course of a 13-week season the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (CAMP) Team eradicated more than 1.1 million illegal marijuana plants.

There were more than 450 grow sites, and operations were conducted in 29 counties including Fresno, Kern, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, and Tulare.

Despite challenges from COVID-19 and wildfires – the multi-agency campaign, arrested 140 people and seized 174 weapons.

AG Becerra says the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting program is the nation’s largest illegal marijuana eradication program.

“Illegal marijuana planting on public lands risks public safety and health,” said Becerra, who said it poisons wildlife, damages the environment, and can destroy natural resources.
