CLOVIS, CA (KMJ) – The Clovis Police Department has released the 911 tape from Sunday’s officer involved shooting.

Six officers were involved in the incident early Sunday morning, when Clovis Police shot and killed 26-year-old Nikolas Frazier.

Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming said dispatch received a 911 call about a man with a rifle in the Walmart parking lot around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Chief Fleming said the call was placed by Nikolas Frazier, the man who was shot.

Clovis Police released the video on Tuesday, from the call:

Dispatch: “‘911 emergency.”

Frazier: “There’s a male with possible rifle, he’s walking around in the parking lot.”

Dispatch: “Pointing it?”

Frazier: “I can tell that he’s carrying some kind of rifle.”

In the 911 audio, Frazier told police there was a white man holding a long barrel rifle.

Chief Fleming said officers tried to work with Frazier to put down the weapon, which turned out to be a Daisy model air rifle, a BB gun with a 15″ barrel, and not a real rifle.

Chief Fleming said it was around 1:44 am Sunday, when Frazier pointed the gun at officers.

In the video, you can hear police tell Frazier to drop the rifle, but he refused, eventually pointing it causing the officers to fire.

Six officers shot around a dozen shots at Frazier who fell to the ground.

They performed CPR and Frazier was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Chief Fleming said a total of 15 shots were fired from a distance ranging from 30 yards to 55 yards.

The Clovis Police Department said Frazier had no known criminal history.

This is the first officer-involved shooting in the city of Clovis since July of 2016.

Chief Fleming said, “I just want to give my condolences as the police chief to Frazier family. We met with them this morning and showed them this entire presentation prior to meeting with the media today out of respect for the family.”
