Fresno County Jail Inmate Tests Positive for COVID-19

FRESNO , CA (KMJ) – A Fresno County Jail Inmate has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Sheriff’s Office says the inmate was one of eight placed in the Fresno County Jail’s quarantine area, back in April.

Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti says that area was created after one of the jail’s correctional officers tested positive.

Botti said “The good thing is that we did have measures in place, ah, before we had this person only around people who might be positive. They weren’t running around with the general population.”

The inmate is currently in the jail’s red zone.

“We have a red, orange and yellow zone, the yellow zone has three, and that’s people who have symptoms. The orange has several people -they are ones we know have come in contact with somebody who’s been positive and then the red is somebody who has, in fact, tested positive,” said Botti.

Botti also said the correctional officer who tested positive for COVID-19 three weeks ago has been cleared and is back at work.
