PRESS RELEASE

Fresno EOC WIC is now issuing supplemental food benefits for families over the phone

COVID-19 Response Package now allows for new WIC flexibilities

[Fresno, CA] — We care about the health and safety of our participants and staff and we are following the guidance provided by California Department of Public Health, to help reduce the risk of the Covid-19 virus spreading. Fresno EOC WIC clinic waiting rooms will be closed to the public, but services will be provided over the phone.

The President signed COVID-19 Response Package into law which includes WIC flexibilities. WIC is now able to enroll and issue benefits remotely, relaxing previous restrictions for participants to be physically present. Participants can expect to receive access to nutrition and breastfeeding support services, as well as supplemental food benefits.

Participants are encouraged to contact Fresno EOC WIC to set up an appointment by phone (559) 263-1150 or by texting ‘fresnoeocwic’ to 45778. Once they have set up a phone appointment, they will be given further instructions.

Participants who are new to WIC can sign up at www.FresnoEOC.org/wic.

Fresno EOC WIC serves over 25,000 participants a month, supplementing healthy foods and providing breastfeeding support to people in Fresno County.

“We want families to feel confident that they can still access valuable nutrition education, breastfeeding support, supplemental healthy foods, as well as all of our other services during this stressful time,” said Jack Lazzarini, Fresno EOC WIC director.
