FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Many animals are being affected adversely by Coronavirus.

The Fresno Chaffee Zoo just one place in the city that’s closing its doors temporarily to stop the spread of COVID 19.

Zoo keepers are taking care of the animals, but many of the strays and even some pets in our city are seeing a much different outcome.

Fresno Humane Services says they’d be lying if they said they’re not worried about the wellbeing of their animals at this time.

Many of the rescues they work with are being told to “shelter in place”.

That means they will not take in any new any animals at this time.

Fresno Humane Services says their rescue partners are critical to saving lives.

They are asking citizens to help – by keeping pets out of shelters.

Adopt, foster, donate and make sure your pets have IDs on them.

Fresno Humane, like other shelters, will remain open for adoptions

They encourage people to sign up to become a foster parent and open their home to a shelter dog or cat.
