BAKERSFIELD, CA (KMJ) – Caltrans crews were still clearing vehicles from state route 58 Friday morning over the Tehachapi Mountains.
As of 10:00 am the road remained closed in both directions.
The CHP in Fort Tejon said mostly all the snow was cleared over the grapevine, and the traffic being escorting at that time was the traffic that was currently on the 58 pass.
State Route 58 was closed with no timetable on when it will reopen.
The Highway Patrol says Thursday night, roadway temperatures dropped into the single digits causing miles of roadway to freeze.
Cal Trans had been working tirelessly to thaw the ice and make the roadway safe.
