GORMAN, CA (KMJ) — A semi driver is found dead on the Grapevine, the CHP says snow is affecting routes for other drivers.
The California Highway Patrol said the big rig driver was found dead inside his vehicle Thursday morning, but his identity has not been released.
He was found unresponsive just before 8:30 a.m. on the southbound side of I-5 near Fraizer Park, and pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was the only one inside of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man had a medical condition and his truck was stuck in the snow at the time, according to the CHP.
His death is still under investigation.
Snow caused the closure of Interstate 5 in both directions over the Grapevine.
Caltrans District 6 said HWY 166,an alternate around the grapevine, was closed before 1:30pm due to snow.
Highway 58 is also closed to Tehachapi.
As of 2:00 pm Thursday, the routes still open were Route 41 & 46 to the 101.
A winter weather warning is in effect until 10:00 p.m. Thursday night for the Fort Tejon, Tehachapi, and Los Angeles County mountain areas.
San Bernardino and Riverside Counties are under a winter warning that’s expected to last until Friday morning, December 27.
