SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Federal officials say a Mexican national who assumed an American’s identity was sentenced Tuesday to nearly 4 years in prison for voter fraud.
A federal judge in Sacramento sentenced 64-year-old Gustavo Araujo Lerma to 3 years and 9 months in prison.
A jury convicted Araujo Lerma of aggravated identity theft, making a false statement on a passport application and five counts of voting by an alien in federal elections.
Lerma insisted he is an American named Hiram Enrique Velez.
He also testified he supports President Donald Trump and donated to the Republican Party.
