It happened Tuesday around 5:14 p.m. on E. Adams Avenue between S. Alta Avenue and S. Pedersen Avenue in Fresno County.

According to CHP, 61-year-old Manuel Ramirez Jr. was driving a VW Jetta when he drove the car into the opposing lane, colliding head-on with a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 28-year-old woman.

CHP says a 30-year-old woman who was in the passenger seat of Ramirez’s car was killed in the collision.

There were three children in Ramirez’s car, ages 4, 3 and 2, who all sustained major injuries and were taken to CRMC.

The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

CHP says it is still under investigation to determine if the driver and the passengers in the Jetta were properly restrained at the time of the collision.

CHP says Ramirez was determined to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Ramirez was arrested for felony DUI and felony gross vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment charges.

Ramirez remains hospitalized with major non-life threatening injuries and will be booked into the Fresno County Jail up discharge, CHP says.
