2 In Custody Following Armed Robbery, Chase And Crash

An armed robbery was reported at 11:20 a.m. at a liquor store on Blackstone Ave. just north of Manchester Center.

Police say an armed man with face tattoos and a partial face mask went into the store, but realized there were a lot of customers and quickly left the store.

He got into a car driven by a woman that was waiting for him.

Police broadcast the description of the car and the couple inside for patrol officers to watch for.

An officer was flagged down by a citizen about 40 minutes later saying he had just been robbed at gunpoint.

An alert undercover unit spotted a vehicle matching a description of the robbery vehicle and started following, calling for marked police units to respond.

Police tried to pull the car over, but the driver would not stop, leading them on a chase that continued through the Tower District and onto northbound Hwy. 41.

The driver was driving on the shoulder to pass cars, got off at Shields Ave., driving through a neighborhood until crashing into a truck at First and Princeton Streets.

The man took off running but was caught.

The woman was arrested at the scene of the crash but the man tried to run away before he was finally caught.

The man was taken to the hospital complaining of pain.

One officer was also slightly injured.

24-year-old Brittney Manzo and 30-year-old Martin Barajas were arrested and face multiple charges.
